Love Overwhelming Bust

The tarnished reputation of the low-barrier Love Overwhelming shelter at 304 Cowlitz Way in Kelso is taking another hit, as two people are arrested for alleged drug sales out of the facility. The Cowlitz-Wahkiakum Narcotics Task Force reports that a one-month investigation into sales of heroin and meth got wrapped up yesterday, as Crystal Deanna Vernon, 30, and Randi Dawn Beck, 31, were booked for delivery of meth. Vernon is also being served with a Department of Corrections warrant, along with a count of criminal impersonation. Longview Police Captain Deborah Johnson is the Task Force Commander, and she says that “several” drug dealers were identified during this investigation, operating out of the shelter. Between April 1st and May 21st of this year, Kelso Police have been called to the shelter 70 times; Johnson says that 22 of those reports were for incidents related to drugs, weapons, assaults or thefts. Authorities say that they continue to investigate crimes happening at or near the shelter, and they urge people who witness illegal activity to contact Kelso Police.
