The City of Longview is announcing a deal that will help with the maintenance of the urban forest inside the city limits. The urban Forestry Restoration Project provides Washington Conservation Corps crews to conduct maintenance and restoration projects on public lands. In return for providing a base of operations for the Cowlitz County WCC Crew, Longview will receive several months of assistance from that crew. Tasks will include things like planting, leaf removal, structural pruning, watering, staking and mulcing. It’s also noted that the WCC is an excellent opportunity for young adults to get some experience in a wide variety of environmental jobs, while also working toward an AmeriCorps Education Award valued at more than $5,500. The crew is expected to arrive on October 1st; you can find out more about the WCC by going to the Department of Ecology website.
