Cowlitz County Building and Planning, the Department of Ecology and the Army Corps of Engineers are setting up a series of “scoping meetings” in regard to the Environmental Impact Statement for the proposed coal export terminal at the Millennium Bulk Terminals facility in Longview. MBT is proposing to put the terminal at the old Reynolds Metals plant in West Longview, which falls under environmental review by the county, the state and the federal government. During the scoping period for the EIS, the agencies will gather comments about what should be covered by that review. A variety of methods will be used to solicit those comments, including the posting of a joint website that will have additional details about the scoping period. An e-mail list is also being set up, to keep interested parties apprised of the latest developments on the project. The tentative dates and times for the scoping meetings are on September 17th at the Expo Center in Longview, on September 25th in Spokane, October 2nd in Pasco, October 9th in Vancouver, and October 17th in Tacoma.
