A Portland-based home meal delivery program is apparently causing some local confusion, as that group solicits donations from Cowlitz County citizens. Loaves and Fishes is a large Portland non-profit, which helps to deliver Meals on Wheels to seniors and shut-ins in Clark and Multnomah counties. In recent weeks, Cowlitz County residents have been receiving mailers asking for donations, saying that they are “Meals on Wheels People,” with Loaves and Fishes in smaller print. Locally, the Meals on Wheels program is run by Lower Columbia CAP, and the mailers may have people making contributions, thinking that they’re donating to the local program. CAP Board President Mary Gillespie contacted Loaves and Fishes after she got one of these mailers herself, and she says that Loaves and Fishes was apologetic over creating that type of confusion. They say that any donations received from Cowlitz County will be returned to this area. Last year, CAP’s Meals on Wheels program delivered more than 28,000 healthy meals to local seniors and shut-ins. If you have other questions, call Lower Columbia CAP at 425-3430, extension 259.
