Searchers are once again out in the woods near Mount St. Helens again this morning, resuming a search for Maureen Kelly, 19, of Vancouver. She’s been missing since Sunday night, when she apparently left a campsite in the Canyon Creek area of Skamania County, heading off on a “spiritual quest.” Fellow campers report that Kelly took off around 5 pm on Sunday, naked, and carrying only a small pack with minimal supplies. Skamania County Undersheriff Dave Cox says that search teams combed the area yesterday, including two K-9 teams. Cox says that they’ll resume search operations at 8 am, using vehicles and ground units. It’s noted that the Canyon Creek area is steep, mountainous and heavily forested. Cox says that they don’t know if Kelly is using trails, or if she’s moving cross-country. Cox says that they’re asking anyone who has been in the area of Forest Road 54 in the past 24 hours, and who may have seen Maureen Kelly to give them a call at 509-427-9490.
