The Longview School District reported yesterday that they have been successful in scoring a federal grant to try and help improve academic performance at Monticello Middle School. The district announced yesterday that Longview was one of nine districts in Washington that will receive the grants, though they won’t know the actual size of the award until late next month. The district applied for $1.5 million over the next three years, pledging to set up a plan to “transform” Monticello from being one of the state’s persistently lowest-performing schools. 41 schools from 21 districts applied for the grants, and only nine were awarded. The state Superintendent of Public Instruction is working with each of the districts to finalize the award amounts, which should be announced on the 27th of next month.
