The Monticello Hotel shines as Longview’s prime jewel again this evening, as the 90th birthday of the historic hotel is marked. The Monticello Hotel was dedicated on July 12th, 1923, as a crowd estimated at 5,000 people gathered to hear the city’s namesake speak at its opening. Two special events are planned tonight to mark the occasion, starting with a reception open only to Kelso-Longview Chamber of Commerce members. They’ll be having a special ribbon-cutting event and a flag raising, along with special tours of the upgraded building and menu. At 7 pm tonight, a public party opens up, with birthday cake being served, live music from the King Brothers and a special birthday martini on the drink menu. The 7 pm event is open to everyone, though you’ll have to be 21 or over to order the martini.
