A man wanted in a series of motel robberies that took place all around the Lower Columbia region is now in custody, picked up on Friday by Portland Police. Ernest Lee Dean, 40, was arrested on Friday, arrested by the PPD SERT Team as Dean was driving in North Portland. This investigation got started in September of last year; the robbery of the Quality Inn on Atlantic Avenue in Woodland was at the front end of this spree. Early on the morning of September 14th, a masked man came into the motel, armed with a gun. Also claiming that he had a bomb, the suspect tied up the clerk and then stole cash from the till. Similar robberies were also reported in Portland, Wilsonville, Gresham, Hood River, Cannon Beach, Albany and Newport. Dean is now being held on charges of first and second-degree robbery. Other jurisdictions are expected to file additional charges, as well.
