State Troopers say that excessive speed was a factor in a fatal motorcycle crash that took place yesterday afternoon on Ocean Beach Highway, about a half-mile west of Longview. A few minutes before 1 pm, Grady Roe, 55, of Longview was westbound on a Honda road bike; the motorcycle left the highway to the right, and then hit a rocky embankment. Both Roe and the motorcycle came to rest in a ditch on the right side of the highway. Roe was gravely injured in the crash, and was taken to St. John Medical Center. They say that he died at the hospital, as they were preparing to airlift him to another trauma center in Portland. The highway was closed for about an hour after the crash.
