Mountain Musings

There’s a special event planned for today at the Johnston Ridge Volcano Observatory, but it’s less to do with science and more to do with the natural, human impacts of our local volcano. “Volcanic Verse” will be presented at Johnston Ridge this afternoon, with events set for 1 and 2 pm. Jeannie Bennett with the Mount St. Helens Institute says this follows last year’s “Pulse” event, where scientists gathered share information on research about the biologic processes at the mountain. Last year, a group of ten writers and poets was included in the “Pulse” event, and two of those writers will be featured today. Poets Derek Sheffield and Simmons Buntin will be sharing their work; admittance to the event will be included with the admission fee to the Volcano Observatory.
