MSH Opens

Posted on 16th May 2018 at 08:58

Two days before the commemoration of the 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens, the “Open” sign is being flipped at the Johnston Ridge Volcano Observatory. The Washington Department of Transportation reports that the gate at Coldwater will be opened today, making the entire length of the highway open for travel. Johnston Ridge opens at 10 am today, and will be open until 6 pm each day, until things close up again in the fall. This Saturday is the official kickoff of the tourist season on the mountain, with the whole family being invited up to the “It’s a Blast” event at Johnston Ridge. A full day of hands-on activities, geology and local animal identification is planned. Find out more on the Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument web page.
