A man from Woodburn is in the Cowlitz County Jail after an alleged hit-and-run incident that took place yesterday afternoon up at the end of the Spirit Lake Memorial Highway. Deputies were called at about 1:30 yesterday afternoon, when it was reported that someone had crashed into the gate that closes off the highway to Coldwater and Johnston Ridge, damaging the car substantially and leaving a number of car parts behind. Deputies spotted the damaged vehicle about a half-hour later, and they say that the driver initially didn’t stop for them. They finally got the suspect pulled over near Payne Road, and that’s where Tarat, 36, of Woodburn was arrested. He’s now being held in the Cowlitz County Jail for misdemeanor hit-and-run, along with a no-bail hold from the Immigration and Naturalization Service.
