There’s a new Executive Director at the Humane Society of Cowlitz County, as the hiring of Charmaine Rastatter is announced. Rastatter is a native of Rainier, and she has a bachelor’s degree in zoology and animal biology from the Evergreen State College in Olympia. Her professional experience includes work at a veterinary assistant in Tacoma, and as the assistant hospital manager for the St. Francis Animal Hospital in Vancouver. Rastatter takes over for Rick Johnson, who returned to the Humane Society as the interim Executive Director, following the December firing of Keenan Harvey. In a press release announcing the hire, Humane Society Board President Cindy Nordstrom says that Rastatter has a passion for animals, while also possessing the knowledge and experience to handle volunteers, along with the management of the facility. Rastatter is already on the job, starting in her new position on Monday.
