The Daily News has a new managing editor, as it’s announced that John Markon, 57, will be taking over the newsroom. They report that Markon comes to this area from Idaho Falls, Idaho, where he’d previously been working as the news and features editor for the Post Register newspaper. Markon is a native of Virginia, and has spent much of his time in the sports aspect of journalism. He moved over to news in 2008, saying that he was looking for a new challenge. Markon also says that he likes working for smaller papers, where everyone is asked to “do a little bit of everything.” Daily News Publisher Rick Parrish is quoted as saying that Markon has a wealth of experience at the community level, and will help to keep the Daily News focused on the local area.
