Dozens of local kids gave the new playground equipment in the Hemlock Plaza at Lake Sacajawea its official break-in yesterday, and the squeals of laughter show that the new gear gets their stamp of approval. The official dedication of the new playground area was held yesterday; Longview Mayor Pro Tem Don Jensen says that replacement was needed. The City of Longview put up $75,000 toward the new equipment, while the Longview Noon Rotary also took on the replacement as a project, donating $10,000. Another $10,000 came from a Neighborhood Parks Grant, and Lowe’s Home Improvement also put in a $1,200 grant. Along with upgrading the old equipment, which dated back to 1992, the new equipment is accessible to kids with disabilities. Donated labor also helped to cut the cost of the project, saving the city another $32,000.
