The Fighting Smelt of Lower Columbia College weren’t very gracious hosts over this past weekend, as they dominated the Northwest Forensics Conference Speech and Debate Tournament that was held at LCC. The Fighting Smelt finished first overall, ahead of Mount Hood Community College and Clark College. LCC rolled in the public debate category, with Tanner Wiley getting a gold medal over teammate Holly Lemmons. Marty Kay of Kelso also won a gold medal in public debate. In parliamentary debate, Kay and partner Ben Solheim won a gold medal, while Lemmons and Wiley finished with a bronze. In the individual events, the Fighting Smelt scored more points than any other team. Marty Kay placed in three separate categories, while six of his teammates also contributed to the team total.
