Online Threat Arrest

A middle schooler from Scappoose is under arrest, accused of making online threats to others. The South County Spotlight reported that the male student was arrested last Sunday, after he allegedly made threatening comments in a live chat room on Saturday. Scappoose Police Chief Norm Miller says that this was a “textbook investigation,” where investigators had to sift through some leads and other players before identifying and arresting the person that made the threats. The boy was arrested on Sunday, and then was booked into the Cowlitz County Juvenile Services Center. Miller says that they’re not discussing the nature of the threats at this time; Scappoose School District officials followed up with a letter to families, saying that while this wasn’t a “viable threat,” they do take all threats seriously, and they acted on what was learned. Documents related to the case are still being reviewed by juvenile prosecutors.
