The Cowlitz PUD is firing up a pilot program that’s intended to help the utility’s customers understand how they use electricity, and can help to improve their energy efficiency. Starting tomorrow, about half of the PUD customers will be receiving Home Energy Reports, which the PUD says are designed to help cut energy waste, lower bills and increase comfort. Brent Arnold with the PUD says that these Home Energy Reports will be mailed out six times a year to the customers being asked to participate in this program. Arnold says that the basic idea is to help customers track usage, showing comparisons to similar customers, and by providing energy-saving tips. The graphically-driven program makes the program easy to understand and use. Arnold says that the HER program has been growing in popularity around the Northwest and across the country, due to the success that customers are having in reducing their energy consumption. HER participants will be receiving mailings and web-based materials, and he says that by the end of June, all PUD customers will have on-line access to the comprehensive resources available through the HER program.
