Current Columbia County Commissioner Henry Heimuller came out on top of a four-way race last night, as votes were counted in Oregon’s Primary Election. Out of nearly 11,000 votes that were counted, Heimuller received 4,351, which is 39.56 percent of the total. Paulette Lichatowich is currently in second place, picking up 27.87 percent of last night’s run. Kimberly Johns is in third place with 22.97 percent, and Don Campbell is a distant fourth, with just over 9 percent of the tally.
Voters in St. Helens overwhelmingly elected to retroactively prohibit taxes on grocery sales, with more than 89 percent of the votes cast going with the charter amendment, while voters in the Clatskanie Rural Fire Protection District came down on the side of a new five-year operations levy for the fire district. More than 71 percent of vote cast in the RFPD were in support of the levy.
