The Saturday morning fire that destroyed a vacant house on Oregon Way is being called “suspicious” at this time. Around 5:30 on Saturday morning, neighbors of the house at 531 Oregon Way reported being awakened by “snapping and crackling,” then they saw a large column of smoke coming from the house. When firefighters arrived a few minutes later, the house was almost fully involved in flames, so work started to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring structures. After the fire was knocked down, a primary search was done, to make sure that no one was inside. This is the same house where a “human-caused” fire had been reported in late May; at that time, they found evidence that “squatters” had been using the house. Investigators say that it looks like this fire started on the outside of the building, similar to the previous fire. The property owner had been in the process of renovating the house, but now he indicates that it will probably just be torn down. No injuries were reported; Oregon Way was shut down for about an hour during this incident.
