Two Oregon State Police Troopers are on paid administrative leave after they shot and killed Josiah M. Fischer, 27, of St. Helens on Friday evening. OSP says the shooting took place at around 6:45 pm on Friday, following a high-speed chase that started on Highway 30 in the Scappoose area. The chase turned onto the back roads east of St. Helens, before a Trooper hit Fischer’s car, which caused him to crash into a ditch near the St. Helens Golf Course. The shooting took place shortly afterward; details on why shots were fired haven’t been disclosed. It was also first announced that the victim was female, but that was corrected after a positive identification was made. Troopers Robin May and Justin Oxenrider are now on administrative leave, as the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office leads the investigation. The Columbia County Major Crimes Team has also been activated.
