Effective immediately, the City of Kelso is imposing a six-month moratorium on marijuana-related activities, both medical and recreational, in an effort to give city officials time to develop its own set of regulations on the issue. City Manager Steve Taylor and City Attorney Janean Parker say that this is a “preemptive move,” intended to protect Kelso from a potential lawsuit…kelsomoratorium…Under the moratorium passed last night, no building permit, occupancy permit, or other development permit or approval shall be issued for and medical or recreational marijuana-related land use. They also say that no business licenses for marijuana-related operations will be issued while the moratorium is in effect. With the imposition of this moratorium, the city is required to hold a public hearing, to take public input and to consider the adoption of additional legal findings. That hearing is currently set for the regular Kelso City Council meeting on August 20th.
