Longview Fire crews spent several hours out at the Puget Sound Energy Plant at the Mint Farm yesterday evening, after a fire was reported at the facility. A passerby called 911 at 5:45 pm, reporting that they could see smoke and flames at the natural gas-fired power plant, licking at the side of a tank at the facility. They reported that the flames were three to four feet high, going up toward a catwalk at the power plant. Fire crews arrived and found a fire in some equipment and insulation at the facility. Authorities were on the scene until almost midnight. The fire was eventually tracked to an instrument box, and was eventually put out. The box was destroyed, and it’s estimated that a total of $3,000 damage was done. LFD officials speculate that exposure to some superheated steam pipes set some combustible materials on fire. No injuries were reported.
