Ballots for the 2014 Primary Election in Washington are due today. The results from tonight’s tally will select the “top-two” that will advance to the November General Election. Here in Cowlitz County, there are only a few multi-candidate races on the ballot. There’s a three-way race for the 3rd District Congressional seat currently held by Republican Jaime Herrera Beutler. She’s being challenged in her own by Michael Delavar, and by Democrat Bob Dingethal. Incumbent 19th District Representative Brian Blake, a Democrat, is running off against Republican Hugh Fleet and Independent Jimi O’Hagan, and there’s actually a four-way race for the Cowlitz County Commission seat now held by Jim Misner. Mark Smith, Mike Kayser and Joe Gardner are all challenging for that position. Only voters in Cowlitz County Commission District 3 are voting in the primary; the entire county will vote on that position in the General Election. In addition, Castle Rock voters are deciding on a Library operations levy, and there’s a levy election in Cowlitz County EMS District 1. Carolyn Myers with Cowlitz County Elections says that it’s probably too late to county on getting your ballot postmarked in time, and she advises that you deposit your ballot off at one of the drop boxes set up around the county. Results will be posted on the Cowlitz County Elections website after the polls close at 8 pm.
