The Longview City Council is directing staff to move ahead with discussions and exploration of the possibility of forming a new panel that could help with economic development on certain projects and properties inside the city limits. City Manager Bob Gregory says that a “Public Development Authority” could help to cut through some red tape, and could kickstart some projects that have been stalled…pda…In a workshop held last night, details connected to Public Development Authorities and Community Renewal Agencies were presented, discussing how these organizations can help deal with restrictions on purchase, sales, disposal or development of certain publicly-owned properties. Two specific areas discussed last night were the Expo Center Master Plan and Phase 2 of the Mint Farm Industrial Park. There was unanimous agreement that there is merit to exploring the possibilities, so Gregory and other city staff will move ahead with meetings to try and work out details on formation and management of a Public Development Authority. He says that something could be brought back to the City Council for action in a couple of months or so.
