It’s now reported that 59 teams are registered for this year’s Longview Cardboard Boat Regatta, the headline event for the opening day of this year’s Go 4th Festival. For the first time ever, the Cardboard Boat Regatta will be held in the evening, starting at 5:30 pm on Tuesday, July 2nd on Lake Sacajawea. The track will be the same, with boats launching from next to Martin’s Dock, traversing a two-turn course, and then making a mad dash to the finish line on the other side of the dock. This year’s theme is “Superheroes,” and the mascot “Regatta Man” could be making an appearance. Some new elements are also planned for this year’s event, including a performance by the LCC Red Devils Pep Band, which will provide musical encouragement for the racers. The local Army National Guard will have a cannon down at the lake, firing it off to start the event, and for the final heat. For the first time ever, you’ll also be able to “text in your votes” for the “People’s Choice” category in the boat judging. The weather is expected to be sunny and warm, admission is free, so grab the kids and come on down for a lot of great fun.
