You may notice some activity on the Columbia River near Kalama today, as a response drill is conducted. The Department of Ecology will be conducting today’s drill, planning to test a number of state-regulated companies on the implementation of their oil spill preparedness plans. Ecology officials say that they plan to see how well these companies can coordinate actions and mobilize equipment in the event of a spill. Today’s drill will involve private spill response boats and recovery vessels, deploying boom barriers, tracking buoys and other equipment. It’s noted that no oil will be used in today’s exercise.
