An effort has been going on through most of the night, working to find and rescue two women who became stranded during a inner-tube outing on the Toutle River. A little after 7 pm, a Kelso man called 911, reporting that his wife, Amanda Estay, 35, and her cousin, Barbara Battle, 42, from SeaTac, hadn’t come home from their float trip. Deputies went to the area of the Mickey Mouse Bridge, and eventually contacted the women off the end of Kroll Road. They say that Battle had an ankle injury, and that she was stranded on a sand bar in the middle of the river. That sand bar was also surrounded by cliffs and heavy brush. The Dive Team was brought in, and eventually got to Battle around 12:45 this morning. A helicopter was called in from King County, and eventually evacuated both women. Battle was taken to St. John Medical Center, where she was treated and released. Estay was apparently unhurt.
