Rutherglen Mansion Bought

After several months of ownership limbo, it’s now being announced that the Rutherglen Mansion is being purchased by a couple living in Bothell, who reportedly plan to turn the historic building into a small bed and breakfast. Today’s Daily News reports on the sale, saying that Eric W. Thompson and his wife purchased the building for a half-million dollars. Thompson is a Rainier native, and still holds family property in that area. Thompson tells the paper that they don’t have plans to re-open as a restaurant or large event space, as that would require some very expensive renovations, in order to meet code. The Rutherglen Mansion was built in the 20’s by J. D. Tennant, and is currently listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Over the years, the building has served as a home for girls, a bed-and-breakfast, and as a destination restaurant. Thompson says that work will begin soon, painting and restoring the grounds at the facility. There’s a goal of being open as a B-and-B by next summer.
