The internal turmoil continues at the City of Scappoose, as Jon Hanken as resigned from his position as the Scappoose City Manager. Hanken’s resignation comes after a vote by the Scappoose City Council, stating that they were going to relieve him of his duties. The South County Spotlight reports that the reasons for removing Hanken weren’t disclosed, but the vote comes shortly after a report that was critical of the discipline that Hanken gave to Scappoose Police Chief Douglas Greisen. Hanken had put Greisen on unpaid leave, claiming that he had violated numerous department policies. Last Friday night, the Scappose Council voted 5-1 to accept a severance package suggested by Hanken, and then relieved him of his duties. A large number of citizens attended Friday’s emergency meeting, many of them critical of the decision. Scappoose Mayor Scott Burge is now serving as the interim City Manager, until the League of Oregon Cities can locate a temporary replacement.
