Castle Rock Elementary School, Rose Valley Elementary School and R. A. Long High School are being honored by the State of Washington, selected to make this year’s list as “Schools of Distinction.” 94 schools across the state are getting the award this year, recognizing sustained improvement in reading and math scores over the past five years. These schools are among the top five percent in improvement gains. This is the second year in a row for Castle Rock and R. A. Long to receive this award.
Eleven schools in Longview are receiving “Let’s Move” Active School National Awards, connected to First Lady Michelle Obama’s campaign to battle childhood obesity. All eight elementary schools and all three middle schools are receiving the award; R. A. Long received the award last year, and can reapply next year. Mark Morris High School also received a “Let’s Move” Bronze Award, recognizing efforts to improve nutrition and water quality at the high school.
