Help for getting local senior citizens back into the workforce is now available, as the Longview operations of the Tacoma Goodwill announces openings in the Senior Community Service Employment Program. This program provides training and employment opportunities for low-income persons age 55 and older, and who live in Cowlitz, Grays Harbor, Thurston, Yakima, Klickitat and Kittitas counties. The SCSEP is a community service and work-based training program for older workers, providing subsidized, service-based training for low-income seniors who are unemployed and have poor employment prospects. Participants average 20 hours a week, working in a variety of service programs in non-profit and public facilities. Some of the facilities include places like day cares, senior centers, schools and hospitals. The program is intended to serve as a bridge to unsubsidized employment, with a goal of placing at least 30 percent of participants in regular employment each year.
