Woodland Police now report that the suspect in a Saturday shooting incident at a home on Old Pacific Highway is in custody. Around 3:15 Saturday afternoon, a man called WPD, claiming that a masked man had come into his shop, shot his black lab to death, and then tried to shoot him. The Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office and the State Patrol Major Crimes Unit assisted with the investigation, eventually helping to identify the suspect as Thomas Richard Nash, 63, a transient who has been living in the Woodland area, and apparently had some sort of dispute with the victim. They now say that Nash was located and arrested at about 11 am on Sunday. He’s now being charged with first-degree assault, first-degree animal cruelty, first-degree burglary, driving while suspended and a failure-to-appear warrant. His total bail currently comes in at $202,000.
