Snow Adventure

Posted on 31st December 2014 at 09:10

A day of target-shooting and snow play turned into a cold night in the cab of a pickup for a Battle Ground man and his nine year-old son from Montana. Michael Rudolph, 44, and Aaron Rudolph, 9, had gone out at about 11 am Monday morning, but eventually got stuck in the snow up on Lookout Mountain in Skamania County. However, Michael Rudolph knew exactly what to do next; the last nine years of his service in the Coast Guard dealt with teaching safety and survival to commercial fishermen. He and his son went through the “seven steps of survival” that he’s been teaching, turning the truck on and off periodically, to run the heater and stay warm. Tuesday morning, they eventually freed the truck and slowly made their way down the mountain. They met with a Sheriff’s Deputy near Yacolt, and eventually made it back to civilization. Father and son were cold and tired, but were unhurt otherwise.
