The U. S. Army is reporting that a solider from Ethel was killed in a training exercise at Fort Bragg in North Carolina. They say that PFC James Groth was a member of a cannon crew, involved in a live-fire exercise with the 18th Fires Brigade of the 82nd Airborne. Full details have not yet been released, but they have said that there was some sort of a problem with an M-777 light, towed howitzer. Groth, 22, was killed in the incident, while seven other members of the crew were injured. Sergeant Jason Muzzy of Pecos, New Mexico and Specialist Scott Yeates of Sanford, Florida were hospitalized after the mishap, while five others were treated and released. The investigation into the incident is continuing.
