Spare Ordnance

A man who recently bought some property near Castle Rock got some extra stuff in the deal, but it’s not the kind of material that you’re hoping to find. Just after noon yesterday, the man called 911 from the property in the 400 block of Agren Road, saying that he was checking the property and had found what appeared to be a military artillery projectile in a shed on the property. The man says that the projectile was 18 to 20 inches in length, pointed on one end. An explosives disposal team from Joint Base Lewis-McChord was called in, arriving on the scene around 4:30 pm, they checked the item, and found that it was a live round, packed with more than 15 pounds of high explosives. The EOD team requested a safe radius of 1.5 kilometers as the round was removed for detonation. The explosives team and Sheriff’s Deputies cleared the scene without further incident at about 7:30 pm.
