There will be a beer and wine garden at this year’s SquirrelFest, but it won’t be in the same location as in previous years. At last night’s meeting, the Longview City Council approved a special use permit that will allow the garden to be located inside R. A. Long Park itself. City Manager Bob Gregory says that’s due to the closure of the restaurant and lounge at the Monticello Hotel…squirrelfestbeer…It’s estimated that it will cost the city about $3,100 for its role in the festivities, a bill that organizers say will be acceptable. Longview Police will be reimbursed for overtime that officers will use to monitor the park, Longview Fire will also provide a stand-by crew for debris fall-out from the fireworks, and the street department will help with traffic control set-up, maintenance and barrier installation before and after the parade. This year’s Longview Squirrefest is set for Saturday, August 16th.
