The Department of Transportation says that this latest storm brought enough snow to close the upper end of the Spirit Lake Memorial Highway. Wednesday afternoon, they closed the highway from the Hummocks Trail to the Loowit Viewpoint, going from milepost 45 to 51. They say that there’s now three feet of snowpack on that part of the highway, and additional snow is expected through the weekend. The closure will remain in place through the rest of the winter season, though access to Coldwater Lake will be maintained as conditions permit. You can check road conditions at the WashDOT webpage, or by calling 511.
