SR 6 Bridge Opens

Posted on 30th April 2014 at 15:42

The Washington Department of Transportation says that the new Willapa River Bridge opens to traffic today, replacing a structure that had been in place since the time that Herbert Hoover had been president. Construction on the bridge started last summer; WashDOT officials say that paving is under way, and the traffic shift onto the new bridge should start today. While this new bridge will eventually help to speed traffic between Chehalis and Raymond, around-the-clock single-lane traffic and other minor delays will continue into June, as final work is completed. Removal of the old bridge is expected to begin next month.
