The Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate an officer-involved shooting that took place last night near Coal Creek Road and Ocean Beach Highway. Cowlitz County Chief Criminal Deputy Charlie Rosenzweig says that this all got started after an armed robbery at Yoon’s Market on Pacific Way, at about 8:40 pm. Rosenzweig says that the suspect took off in a black pickup, and was spotted a short time later on Pacific Way. After a short car chase, the suspect blew out a tire, then Rosenzweig says that the suspect got out, firing at his pursuer. At least 15 rounds were fired in the exchange, with several cars parked in the area possibly hit. The suspect did run off on foot, heading west. A K-9 and Lower Columbia SWAT was called in, then at about 11 pm, the suspect was found about 100 yards from his vehicle, deceased. It’s also noted that the Longview Officer that fired at the suspect was injured, but his wounds are not serious. The suspect has not been identified, and has been turned over to the Cowlitz County Coroner for an autopsy. The suspect’s name has not been released.
