Working with SWAT units from Clark and Multnomah County, Cowlitz County law enforcement agencies were involved in a major action that took place yesterday morning at a home in the 28 hundred block of Lewis River Road east of Woodland. That effort resulted in the arrest of one of three men thought to be involved in a racially-motivated attack at a bar in Vancouver. Lower Columbia SWAT, the Narcotics Task Force and the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office were all involved in the serving of a search warrant at 2801 Lewis River Road, arriving at that location shortly after 6 am yesterday. Within a half-hour, Donald McElifish was in custody. He’s said to be one of three suspects involved in an assault that took place back on March 18th at the Quarter Deck Bar on Fourth Plain Boulevard in Vancouver. It’s alleged that McElfish was involved in the incident where three men were attacked with a deadly weapon, and the three suspects allegedly threatened to kill one of the victims, based on his race. Along with McElfish, Brent Luyster and Robert Luyster were arrested at their homes in Vancouver. All three are now being held in the Clark County Jail on charges of second-degree assault and felony harassment with a racial motivation enhancement. It’s noted that all three men have previous histories of violent crime; McElfish served time for a drive-by shooting that took place in 1999.
