In an effort to improve its collaboration with local industries and that training of the workforce for those industries, the Southwest Washington Workforce Development Council is adding 12 new members, including several Cowlitz County business owners and representatives. Council Chair John Vanderkin says that having representatives from these different companies will help to give greater insight into the training and hiring needs for the entire spectrum of business around the region. A few of the new members include Keath Huff, who is a systems engineer and account manager for Utilize I. T. of Longview, Mike Lemmons, a mortgage loan officer with Republic Mortgage Home Loans, and Bruce Warrick, the Continuous Improvement Manager at Kapstone Paper in Longview. The Southwest Washington Workforce Development Council is a nonprofit organization that works to bring together funding, service providers, economic development and community groups to provide free training and employment services to local businesses, job seekers and youth.
