Gilbert "Poncho" LealThe Cowlitz-Wahkiakum Narcotics Task Force was involved in a major operation yesterday morning, serving multiple search warrants at multiple locations around the area. Task Force officials say that full details on the operation will be released later today, but they have disclosed that nine people were taken into custody yesterday on a variety of charges, and they’re still looking for a tenth suspect. They say Gilbert “Poncho” Leal, 36, evaded officers after a car chase yesterday morning in Kelso. That chase started in West Kelso, went across the Cowlitz Way Bridge, then ended near the freeway in the area of 12th and Cowlitz Way. Leal abandoned his car in that area and headed into the brush. A K-9 was brought in to try and track him, without success. Gilbert “Poncho” Leal is a black male, 5’5″ and 190 pounds; authorities say that he’s extremely resistant to police, and was also involved in a similar incident back on January 10th. If you have information on his whereabouts, call 911 right away, or leave an anonymous tip on the CrimeStoppers Hotline at 577-1206. Full details on the other arrests are expected later today.
