Kelso School Superintendent says that they’re going to have extra resources on hand today, helping students and staff deal with the loss of Special Education Teacher Erin Weage, who died from injuries she received in a head-on crash Friday afternoon. The collision took place Friday afternoon in the 2500 block of Allen Street, not far from Kelso High School and Coweeman Middle School. The car that the 50 year-old Weage was driving collided with an SUV, which rolled over after the crash. Weage was taken by LifeFlight to a hospital in Portland, where she was declared dead at about 9:20 Friday night. The driver of the SUV was also LifeFlighted to a hospital in Vancouver; that person has not been identified as of yet, and their condition has not been updated. Officials with Kelso Schools say that they’re working on an approach to discuss the death with Weage’s students at Barnes Elementary School; grief counselors will also be available to assist co-workers. Kelso Police continue to investigate the crash.
