Teacher Rallies

Posted on 28th November 2011 at 08:46

Local educators will be involved in a couple of rallies today, one in Longview and one in Olympia. At noon today, hundreds of teachers, administrators, parents and other education supporters are expected to gather on the west campus of the State Capitol in Olympia. The “Standing Strong, Standing Together” rally will take place on the first day of the special Legislative session, asking the Legislature to spare education in this next round of budget cuts. The Washington Education Association and school supporters say that education and students have already absorbed more than their fair share of cuts. They say that it’s time to protect school funding and give students the well-rounded, quality education that they deserve. Those who can’t attend will be “Wearing Red for Public Ed” today. Teachers and school staff from Longview, Kelso and Castle Rock plan to gather before and after school hours outside of the Walgreen’s at 30th and Ocean Beach Highway. Photos from the rally will be forwarded to Olympia, with WEA members gathering the union headquarters at 6:30 pm to write letters to state legislators.
