Posted on 9th January 2012 at 10:07

The investigation is continuing into a fatal mishap on the train tracks near Castle Rock from yesterday evening. Around 6:40 pm, a call came in from an Amtrak train on its way from Portland to Seattle, reporting that they’d hit someone on the tracks, about a half-mile north of the intersection with Cowlitz View Drive and Huntington Avenue. Deputies responded, along with Castle Rock Police and a crew from Cowlitz Fire District 6. At first, they didn’t find the victim, but after about a half-hour of searching, the body was located near the end of Cowlitz View Drive. The Cowlitz County Coroner was called to the scene, and the body was removed. The victim’s identity hasn’t been disclosed, pending notification of family members. The Sheriff’s Office does report that the victim is a male in his 30’s, thought to be a transient. The Amtrak train was allowed to continue after about an hour’s delay, while other train traffic was shut down until around 9 pm. No one aboard the train was injured.
