A 63 year-old woman is being treated for breathing problems that she reported after a two-alarm house fire that happened early this morning in the 1100 block of Wood Avenue in North Kelso. Around 1:40 am, 911 calls started coming in about a house being ablaze at 1106 Wood Avenue. Local residents report that the house was abandoned, but people had been seen “going in and out all of the time.” When fire crews rolled up, the house was engulfed in flames, and was starting to threaten a neighboring apartment complex. That’s when a second alarm was called in. Defensive lines were set up to protect the apartment, while an attack was made on the burning house. A woman living in the apartment complex started to complain about shortness of breath, and she was taken to St. John Medical Center for treatment. Lieutenant Kurt Stich says that she had a previous condition that may have been aggravated by the fire. The abandoned house is a total loss; the cause of the fire remains under investigation. No other injuries were reported. Fire crews were on the scene until about 4 am.
