jhbCongresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler says that yesterday’s Veterans Resource Fair at the Kelso Elks was a huge success, helping to connect veterans to local groups providing services. Beutler also presented a Purple Heart to former Army Specialist Michael Schulte of Carroll, along with a Distinguished Flying Cross to the family of Vietnam veteran Terry Paxton of Longview. Beutler says that events like that remind us all of what “service” really is…vetfair…Schulte had been wounded during a deployment in Afghanistan, while Paxton was honored for his heroism in providing supplies to troops involved in a firefight in Vietnam. Beutler’s office says that about 250 people attended yesterday’s Veterans Resource Fair, with about three dozen organizations set up to connect veterans and their families with local services.
