Wages Lagging

Workers in Longview are making less than other people in the United States, according to statistics just released by the U. S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The latest numbers from BLS show that the average worker in Longview made $22.80 cents per hour in May of 2017, which is about six percent below the national average of $24.34. Management positions are paid the highest, coming in at $47.18 per hour, followed by architecture and engineering, paid at $39.20 per hour. Transportation and material moving jobs make up nearly 10 percent of the local workforce, compared to 7 percent nationwide. It’s also noted that those transportation and material moving jobs have an average wage that’s 10 percent higher than the national average. The largest employment sector is in office and administrative support positions, making up 13.6 percent of the workforce.
