At 12:01 this morning, a ban on all outdoor burning in Wahkiakum County went into effect. All land-clearing, residential and forest management-related burning is banned until further notice. Recreational campfires are still allowed at this time, only in approved firepits built in designated campgrounds; fires are also allowed on private lands, as long as they are contained in a metal, stone or masonry-lined fire pit, while also adhering to other regulations. The burn ban does not apply to federally-managed lands in Wahkiakum County. For more information on local burning restrictions, call the Department of Natural Resources at 577-2025, your local fire agency, or you can also call 1-800-323-BURN. You can also go to the DNR website.
